While I can't confess to having started
Karting at 18 months old. I can however,
claim that I spent my early years
within
earshot of Brands Hatch in Kent.
And when I say within earshot, in the early 70’s noise reduction for the neighbours was a pipe dream.
Moving away when I was 3 years old put motorsport on the back burner for the next 10 years, and while I remember the occasional viewing of a Grand Prix on BBC 2 (with Murray's dulcet tones), there where other interests for a boy living in the wilds of the Lake District in the 70’s (remember that summer of 76).
It wasn't until my family returned to the south of England in the early 81— and
I was bought a copy of Autosport in early 83 that my love for motorsport
was truly kindled.
I was also lucky enough to be taken to the European Grand Prix that year and took my first F1 images. As you can see pit access was a lot easier then and the following year I managed to actually get the car 'almost' in focus. With the background blurred (the right way round), not bad considering these where taken with an Hamex 110 Film Camera. The very thought . . .
